This paper sets forth the results of an empirical study –exploratory in nature– about the influence that objective value contents of motivations have on certain components of selfregulated learning: i.e., orientation towards academic goals, causal attributions and the use of strategies. The sample comprises 480 students selected in compliance with their socioeconomic level and the type of school they attend. The variables are assessed by means of questionnaires from which the reliability analysis is performed. Hypotheses referred to the influence of socio-economic level and the mediating role of school ethos are verified by means of the statistics detailed in the paper. Significant differences by sex are observed. In the conclusion, pedagogical proposals are given from a revision of the present sociocognitive approach.
