En el caso de las enfermedades poco frecuentes con baja prevalencia en la población, el asesoramiento genético es un proceso complejo y requiere de un acompañamiento de distintos profesionales de la salud capacitados en la temática. Un punto en el que acuerdan la mayoría de las investigaciones publicadas es que los psicólogos deberían trabajar desde un modelo psicoeducativo que ofrezca información y contención, pudiendo trasladar, de manera clara, los conocimientos que la genética y la genómica ofrecen para promover la salud y el bienestar de aquellas personas diagnosticadas con una enfermedad poco frecuente y sus familiares. El objetivo del presente trabajo de revisión bibliográfica es esclarecer cuál es el abordaje que realiza el psicólogo en torno a la complejidad que atraviesan muchas personas con un diagnóstico de una enfermedad poco frecuente.
