El presente artículo realiza un análisis teórico del concepto de imaginación desde la psicología del desarrollo, señalando sus vínculos con la creatividad. La imaginación es concebida como una empresa colectiva y es definida como una función integradora y flexible, que consiste en el acto de generar, a partir de fragmentos de conocimiento antiguo, nuevas ideas y posibilidades. La imaginación contribuye no solo a la construcción de mundos irreales o fantásticos, sino también a la construcción de realidades y a la transformación del contexto que se produce en el proceso creativo.
