Abstract

The characters of the three Castilian poems of the early 13th century which comprise the Escorial manuscript K-III-4 (Libro de Apolonio, Vida de Santa María Egipciaca, Libro de los tres reyes de Oriente) travel regretting what they have lost because of the royal fury, their own sin or the threat of an inminent death, but also in order to transcend their losses. Their trips represent the measure of a medieval adventure whose dynamic conveys a deep understanding of life’s journey as the way in which to test one’s Christian faith.
