Abstract

The second book of the French Lancelot en prose, where the Castilian version begins, includes a vast interpretation of Galahot’s dream predicting his death, followed by a series of prophecies and wonderful events. The Castilian version, text dated on 1414, maintained in the BNM’s manuscript 9611, from XVIth century, translates this passage with some peculiarities. Specially, a detailed analysis may show that the treatment of this episode includes omissions, procedures, arguments, narrative and descriptive interpolations producing a text inclination to formal features of exemplary literature, widely spread in Castile, producing important variations in the narrative structure as well as in the text meaning. Analyzing these phenomena, we believe, may lead to relevant conclusions about the text and about the ways of its circulation in the peninsula, and may illuminate certain aspects of the Hispanic Arthurian fiction
