Around 167 BC, a Young Polybius was surprised that Rome could assert its power in the Peninsula, the Carthaginians resist attacks and end up imposing their laws in the East. Probably –explains P. Grimal– it has also infl uenced the Roman customs and tradition helped to ensure superiority over other cultures and made Rome a unique city among all. The family and women constituted a fundamental part of the consolidation of the socio political structure would inherit it, especially at the policy level, a solid legal- Roman tradition. However, the imperial era represented a serious crisis period in which you take a wife, to raise up children to the country and control de wealth, became an important moral, legal and political reassurance to the society of his time. In this way, we briefl y discuss some relevant concepts and laws –the echoes refl ected back to fi nd the length and width of the medieval Christian Spain– which will help us in to the everyday life of this unique period, their aristocratic women and emancipated private law.
