Abstract

The manuscript nature of the medieval text is a fact that forces the editor to face the problem of which concept of text will have to handle in order to establish the critical text of a specific literary work. The different theories about that textual ontology have influence in each particular ecdotic work that’s pretended to perform. This paper attempts, from the example of the Crónica de Sancho IV’s edition, to propose an edition model that considers the variations presented by the text all along its scribal tradition, in order to give some light on the mutable nature of the medieval text with regard to its political purpose.
