Abstract

Since the international financial and economic crisis, the unipolar world view (based on the extreme interpretation of the free market) has fallen, to yield the return of state intervention in the economy, in a multipolar world where the competence of models of national or socio-cultural capitalism rules. This paper analyzes the limits of this system of state capitalism, contrasting it with the social market economy as a system of economic management. This is a system that requires the presence of a strong institutional framework to regulate it and is focused on equity and selfimprovement of the people. The goal is to analyze the performance of these systems in the context that gave rise to them and analyze their effectiveness and
growth in the world in recent years. The paper concludes with an analyses of these theories in the Latin American case.
